Survey Objectives
The development (long-term) objective of the 2003/4
Botswana HIV/AIDS Impact Survey (BAISII) is to provide information
on the population behavioural pattern and the HIV/AIDS prevalence
rates to be used for guiding the formulation and development of
national and district HIV/AIDS and other health-related policies
and programmes.
Specifically, the survey shall seek to:
Generate a nationally representative, population-based estimates
of HIV/AIDS prevalence amongst the population 18 months old to 64
years plus.
Identify and document those factors (i. e. behaviour, knowledge,
attitudes, cultural) that are associated with the HIV epidemic prevention,
infection and impact mitigation amongst the population age 10-64
years.
Establish core benchmarks against which successive progress on the
impact of the National Response to HIV/AIDS can be measured.
